International Women's Day

Celebrate International Women’s Day with the Zonta Club of Kitchener-Waterloo and mark your calendar now for March  4, 2009!

The Fifth Annual IWD Event held at The Walper Hotel on March 5, 2008, was a resounding success.  Dr. Anne-Marie Zajdlik gave a very passionate and inspiring talk. This amazing woman is a family physician and a mom, who has become a local and international AIDS activist. She is the Founder and Director of the Masai Centre for Local, Regional and Global Health; the founder of the Masai for Africa Project and the Bracelet of Hope Project; and a member of the OHAfrica Expert Panel for the Sustainability of the Tsepong HIV/AIDS clinic in Lesotho, Africa. Inspired by Stephen Lewis and supported by her family and many others, she is determined to do what it takes to assist in the global response that is necessary to fight AIDS. Her passion, vision and will have inspired many to join forces with her, Masai and other organizations to bring hope and healing to those touched by AIDS.

We extend a special thanks to the restaurants who provided many and diverse samplings of food.  There was plenty for all!

May 22nd, 2008 will mark the 16thyear for the annual Betty Thompson Golf Classic hosted by the K-W Zonta Club.  This premier ladies golf tournament is named to honour Betty Thompson, a dynamic charter member of the Zonta Club of Kitchener-Waterloo who was a local television personality and community champion.  Betty was diagnosed with breast cancer is 1991 and passed away in 1994.  Proceeds from this popular event are used to help support breast cancer programs and other women’s health programs in our community.

With the support of local businesses and donors, 2007's event raised over $55,000.  The funds were donated to: St. Mary’s Hospital, Grand River Hospital and Hope Spring Cancer Support Centre.

We are proud that the proceeds of this tournament are used to support local programs in our community, which are helping to make a difference in the lives of women.

If you would like to be part of this wonderful day either as a golfer or to sponsor this very worthwhile event, please contact nsdavidson@sympatico.ca for more information.
